Build UK Members Continue to Drive High Standards

Build UK members continue to show commitment to the professional development of their workforces with the introduction of refresher training courses for operatives renewing their cards.

Following the publication of the Build UK Training Standard implementing the Construction Leadership Council’s recommendation on industry card schemes, Trade Association Member the National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC), have been working with the industry recognised scaffold training scheme the Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme (CISRS), in developing a two day CPD course, completion of which will become a mandatory requirement prior to card renewal.

From 1 June 2017, any operative renewing their CISRS Scaffolder or Advanced Scaffolder card, which carries the CSCS logo, will be required to successfully complete the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme. The course will focus on a number of essential training areas including a recognised alternative to the Health and Safety and Environment (H&S&E) Test.

CISRS have developed the CPD course to ensure that CISRS cardholders are up-to-date with the latest legislation affecting the sector at the point of card renewal. The introduction of professional development courses is not only valuable for employers as it gives clients the confidence that they are actively keeping their workers abreast of current best practice, but also benefits skilled operatives as completion of the course demonstrates that they meet the requirements set by the industry and regularly refresh the skills that are essential to them carrying out their highly specialised work.

NASC is the latest Build UK Trade Association Member to support the introduction a requirement for operatives to provide evidence of continued training when applying for card renewal. The Association of Technical Lightning & Access Specialists (ATLAS) led the way by introducing a condition for operatives to successfully complete a training course before renewing their CSCS Skilled Worker cards, an industry development that further highlights the leadership displayed by Trade Association Members in maintaining high standards and updating the key skills of their workforce.

Build UK Chief Executive Suzannah Nichol MBE said:

“It’s fantastic to see our Trade Association Members setting the benchmark on training their workers. The implementation of courses such as the CISRS and NASC CPD programme gives clients the knowledge that if they choose a Build UK Member, they can be confident that their operatives are up-to-speed with the latest industry developments and trained to the highest possible standards.”

Full details of the CISRS and CPD course will be released later in the year. For more information about CISRS card courses and approved training providers, visit the CISRS website.
