Five New Card Schemes Awarded CSCS Logo

Five new card schemes have been awarded the CSCS logo as more schemes meet the Construction Leadership Council’s (CLC) requirements for industry to solely recognise cards carrying the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) logo by 2020.

Following independent audits, the card scheme of Build UK Trade Association member Association of Lorry Loader Manufacturers and Importers (ALLMI), as well as four other industry schemes, have signed agreements enabling them to display the CSCS logo on their cards. The schemes are:

ALLMI

Association of Lorry Loader Manufacturers and Importers (ALLMI)

CSWIP

The Welding Institute (TWI)

MPQC

Mineral Products Qualification Council (MPQC)

QCARD

Glass Qualifications Authority (GQA)

Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA)

Cards displaying the CSCS logo provide the industry with confidence that cardholders have achieved the required standards of training and qualification for their occupation, and as a result contribute to improving standards and safety across UK construction sites.

The Build UK Training Standard, which helps contractors assess the competence of construction workers along with their eligibility to work on-site and which has been adopted by the majority of Build UK members, is regularly updated to reflect schemes that carry the CSCS logo and now exhibits these changes. In addition to the CSCS changes, the Training Standard has been updated and the Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme (CISRS) SSPTS course has been replaced with COTS course.

CLC recommendations also require card schemes to introduce smart technology by 2020, and Build UK and the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) will be carrying out a CSCS SmartCard audit across member construction sites on Wednesday 8 February 2017. The audit is designed to promote the value of SmartCard technology and drive increased industry uptake and will also serve to highlight any expired and fraudulent cards that are in the system, allowing contractors to take action where necessary.

CSCS’s video campaign promotes the use of SmartCard technology across construction sites in the UK, focussing on the benefits behind the technology and the future of CSCS SmartCards.
