Build UK Supports Trade Association Members with Trailblazer Guidance

Build UK has published new, practical guidance to provide our Trade Association members with the information they need to develop new Trailblazer Apprenticeships.

The Government’s new employer-led model for developing and funding apprenticeship standards has been introduced with a view to driving up the relevance and quality of apprenticeships. The changes to the system mean that in order to continue to receive Government funding, all existing apprenticeships, either as a Specification of Apprenticeship Standards for England (SASE) framework or as part of the Specialist Apprenticeship Programme, will need to be converted into a Trailblazer by 2020.

This model could help to tackle our long-standing skills challenges and ensure that apprenticeships are a desirable career path for young people. However, members have indicated their difficultly in navigating the complex and frequently changing apprenticeship landscape and so Build UK’s Developing a Trailblazer Apprenticeship Guidance provides information on the process of developing Trailblazer standard, featuring a step-by-step guide to development and implementation alongside advice on best practice.

The guidance will help employers and their Trade Associations understand the changes to apprenticeship standard development and funding in England and equip them with the information they need to develop Trailblazers in their sector.

The Government is making regular changes to its apprenticeship policy and Build UK’s guidance will be regularly updated to reflect any changes. Further information is available on the Government Trailblazer Apprenticeships website.
