Write for Build UK Newsline
Build UK Newsline reports on the UK construction industry: the contractors, clients and trade associations that build the country's homes, offices, schools, hospitals and infrastructure. Our readers are site managers, directors of contracting firms, procurement teams, trade bodies and the consultants who advise them. They read us for straight reporting on the issues that decide whether a project pays: skills, productivity, payment, safety and regulation. If you can write clearly for that audience, this write for us page sets out what we publish, how a guest post or sponsored post works and how to submit an article.
What we publish
We are looking for informed, current and practical articles on:
- Skills, recruitment, training and retaining talent in construction
- Productivity, offsite and modern methods of construction, digital tools on site
- Procurement, contracts, payment practice and cash flow in the supply chain
- Health, safety and occupational health on site
- Regulation, building safety and industry standards
- Company news, project updates and regional construction market reports
First-hand reporting from the people doing the work always beats a generic overview. Tell us what changed on your site, in your firm or in your region, and what other readers can take from it.
Guest posts and sponsored articles
We accept two kinds of contribution. A guest post is contributed editorial from a contractor, consultant, trade association, researcher or industry journalist. A sponsored post is a paid placement from a business that wants to reach our readers, such as a plant or materials supplier, a software vendor, a recruitment firm, an insurer or a training provider. Both are published on the same terms: the article is permanent, it is indexed by search engines, and any editorial link within it is a standard dofollow link. We do not take published articles down later unless there is a factual error or a legal reason.
Sponsored posts are labelled as sponsored where disclosure is required, and we ask that any commercial interest behind a guest post is declared when you pitch. Pricing for sponsored placements is available on request; tell us what you have in mind and we will reply with a quote. Typical turnaround from accepted draft to publication is three to five working days.
Guidelines
Our contributor guidelines are short. Please read them before you submit an article.
- Original work only. The article must not have been published elsewhere, and we do not accept spun or machine-rewritten copy.
- 800 words or more. Longer pieces are fine where the subject needs the space.
- One or two relevant links to sources, reports or your own site are welcome, provided they help the reader.
- No gambling, adult or pharmaceutical content, and nothing unrelated to construction, the built environment or the businesses that serve it.
- An author bio of two or three sentences is optional. A headshot or site photo is welcome, with a credit.
- We edit for house style, accuracy and length, and we use British English. Substantive changes are shown to you before publication.
- Send drafts as plain text, Word or Google Docs with images attached separately.
How to pitch
Email the editor at [email protected] with the subject line "Guest post: [your topic]". A short pitch is enough to begin: a working title, three or four sentences on the angle and who it helps, and whether you are proposing a guest post or a sponsored post. Finished drafts are welcome if you have one. We answer every pitch, usually within two working days, and we will say plainly if a subject is not a fit so you can place it elsewhere.
Whether you want to write for us, submit an article you have already drafted, or discuss a sponsored post, the address is the same: [email protected].
